Saviah Wine Pairing Dinner

Recently I had the opportunity to attend a wine dinner put on by George and Mary, owners of the wine shop The Dinner Party in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, featuring wines from Walla Walla’s Saviah Cellars. What a wonderfully festive night in a great old converted mansion turned Inn. My friend Sarah really had to twist my arm to go with her… Ha, not really – she pretty much just mentioned the words “wine” and “dinner” together and I was sold. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to a wine dinner that features the owner/winemaker of a winery, but if you haven’t, it’s worth it! Especially if you’re seated right next to said owner/winemaker!

Tips for surviving the holidays… via Instagram

Those of you that know me, know how much I enjoy Instagram. Sometimes, all that needs to be said can be said with a simple photo. Plus, who doesn’t like to play around with the photo filters? It’s BUBBLES season! With all of the holiday parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations coming up, you’re bound to need a few bottles of sparkling wine on hand. Maybe your Champagne tastes are spendy and you can afford to drop the big bucks on Veuve, Taittinger or even Krug. Most people, including me, can’t afford to spend that much and tend to stay in the under $20 range for bringing to/hosting parties. Luckily, there are plenty of options and I’m here to help you choose some that won’t break the bank this holiday season. “Champagne taste” on a budget!

Wines for Thanksgiving

Happy (almost) Thanksgiving! I love this time of year… it’s a time to relax (despite the hassles of travel), spend time with family (or friends), and kickstart the Christmas season (my fav). Pie, eggnog, and good wine – hooray!

I’m happy that I get to spend Thanksgiving with my wonderful family tomorrow. Also, it’s my boyfriend’s birthday, so it’ll be a fun day for sure. This year, I’m in charge of bringing the wine (go figure!), so I thought I’d share what I’ll be having with the turkey dinner tomorrow. I’ll report back on whether these ended up being a good match…

Rio Vista Winery: Picture Perfect Scenery

If you’ve been following along with my weekend recap of Lake Chelan wineries, it’s time to wrap things up (if you missed any of it, read more here). The last stop of the weekend was Rio Vista Winery. As the name implies (river view), the winery is located on the Columbia River just outside of Chelan, WA. It was such an inviting place on a warm day that we decided to spend most of the afternoon hanging out there (might as well delay getting back to reality for a few more hours, right?).

After a full day of tasting wine at Benson, Lake Chelan, Karma and Tsillan wineries on Saturday, we spent Sunday morning leisurely making breakfast and chilling on the deck overlooking the lake. It was 10am and already very warm! To take advantage of the gorgeous weather, we decided to stick around for a few more hours and hit up a couple more wineries in the area. Why not? We first visited a winery called Hard Row to Hoe. Funny name that comes with a good story…

Benson Winery for Estate Wines & Lake Chelan Views

Benson Winery is the first stop we made on our first day in Chelan (read my full write-up on Chelan here). It’s located in a Mediterranean-style building on the hill between Manson and Chelan, complete with a large but comfortable tasting room and excellent views over vineyards and Lake Chelan. I’d say it has the best view in the area!

Lake Chelan Wine Tasting Weekend

Had a fabulous time in Chelan with a couple of good friends this past weekend! We did a lot of wine tasting, ate a lot of cheese and great food, enjoyed the unseasonably warm weather, and even celebrated a birthday (happy birthday, Collin!).

If you don’t live in the Pacific Northwest (or even if you do) maybe you haven’t heard of Lake Chelan? It’s a 50 mile glacier-fed lake (brr!) almost directly between Seattle and Spokane, Washington. Fun fact: it’s the largest natural lake in Washington and one of the deepest in the nation. Just 50 miles south of the Canadian border, the area is home to a lot of fruit orchards (apples, cherries, peaches…), a small resort town and a fair amount of wineries.
