Last week it felt like my mind was still in March when I was legitimately surprised that it was staying light out so late. Haha! Yikes. Now that Memorial Day has passed, I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that summer is pretty much here. While I’m super excited to get out and enjoy the season, I’m going to be easing back into life in the real world… until we know how things pan out over the coming weeks, summer for all of us will likely involve a lot more time at home than past summer seasons. So, sticking with the ‘stay-at-home’ theme, here are the four things I’m digging this week:
1. The Sunshine Spritz
Maybe you’ve been a die-hard Aperol Spritz fan for years, and that’s great, but there’s another spritz concoction worth seeking out. The Sunshine Spritz by the folks at Satellite is a delicious cocktail I’ve enjoyed on many sunny afternoons in Santa Barbara. Now, thanks to their $75 Sunshine Spritz Kits to-go, I can make them at home anytime. The recipe calls for: one part Cocchi Rosa, two parts Cappelletti, three parts Prosecco and three parts Topo Chico. Serve over ice with an orange slice and voila! It’s truly liquid sunshine in a glass.
2. Bründlmayer Zweigelt Rosé
When I was in France last spring, I got to enjoy a line-up of Bründlmayer Rieslings and Grüners after three days straight of tasting through nothing but Rhône wines (I’m not complaining). After so many red wines, my palate was in heaven. Bründlmayer wines are characteristically thirst-quenching, and this rosé is no different. This Austrian rosé is bright, flavorful and full of tart red fruit, but the real kicker is the zippy acidity that leaves your taste buds ready for more. (I got this bottle from Pico Los Alamos, a local restaurant and wine shop with an excellent selection of wine, but you can also find it online through Verve).
3. Stasher Bags
For the past year, I’ve been making a real effort to waste less and recycle more, but the last two months made me realize that we could still do way better. I recently got suckered into purchasing a set of Stasher Bags via an Instagram ad and it has dramatically cut down on the number of Ziplocs we use. Not only are these reusable silicone bags dishwasher safe, but you can throw them in the freezer, oven and microwave. I also appreciate that the company is a member of 1% For the Planet.
4. The Class
Though I have been dedicated to Barre3 for five years, it hasn’t been easy to do the online workouts with a toddler hanging onto me. After hearing a lot about The Class by Taryn Toomey, I decided to branch out and try it. To my surprise, this seems to be the only workout that my daughter actually lets me do for longer than 20 minutes. She calls it my “silly workout” and gets excited when I put it on, probably because she likes to hop around and dance with me. It’s definitely a unique workout, and sometimes a little out there, but I feel great afterwards. Definitely worth the free two-week trial if you haven’t tried it.
